Bulletin Thought

A Thought from Pastor Bryson,

“Come unto Me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”

(Matt. 11:28 KJV)

We live in a world “filled” with situations that are stressful in the life of many. There are many who are unable to sleep, have lost appetite, or just live a life full of worry and despair daily because of the stress of what they’re dealing with.

But in the midst of this stress filled world, in the midst of all the burdens individuals are wrestling with, Jesus issues an invitation that if accepted, will radically change how we live on a daily basis. Jesus simply says – “Come unto Me all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” Another way of saying it is – “Bring all the stuff that you are dealing with to Me. Stuff – things that make you fearful, cause you to lose sleep and have you unable to eat, whatever it is, bring it to Me for I am able to handle it and I will bless you with peace, tranquility of soul, in spite of.”

Let us not lose sight of who issues the invitation – Jesus. The invitation given by Jesus affirms that He loves us, cares about us. Contrary to what some might say, no problem we have is too insignificant for Jesus to take into consideration. In what way then might we bring our problem or problems to Jesus? The answer is simply through prayer.

An old song of the church that I rarely hear these days says – What a friend we have in Jesus, All our sins and griefs to bear! What a privilege to carry Everything to God in prayer! O what peace we often forfeit, O what needless pain we bear, All because we do not carry Everything to God in prayer!

How will the Lord handle our problem or problems? In His own way and in His own time. And while He is working it out He will bless us with peace and assurance – IF we trust Him. I don’t know about you, but I would rather take my concerns to God in prayer rather than try to deal with them on my own. Prayer does work and His peace is readily available.

His invitation still stands – let go and let God….
