A Thought from Pastor Bryson

We don’t go around preaching about ourselves; we preach Christ Jesus, the Lord. All we say about ourselves is that we are your servants because of what Jesus has done for us. (2 Cor. 4:5 NLT)

Today marks my 24th year serving as Pastor of Mt. Nebo Baptist Church. It is my hope and prayer that in the 24 years that I have served, Jesus Christ has been the focus. He is the only reason that any “called” man or woman stands and preaches the Word of God.

We are servants, serving the Lord by serving His church and others. We are to emulate Jesus who did not come to be served, but to serve and give His life as a ransom for many (Matt. 20:28). It’s all about Jesus and not the servant who delivers the message.

Yes, we do hold notable positions in the church and we can’t help but be seen – but we should never seek to set ourselves up as mini gods, seek fame or fortune. By virtue of the ministry some have they have been cast into the limelight and have achieved significant status and fortune, but in spite of that, level headedness and humility is still to be a hallmark of the servant of God.

Many still fail to understand the nature of ministry or the “call” on a person’s life. We often forsake whatever dreams or goals we had for life to answer the “call.” We live with the tension of striving to serve God in this fallen world, striving to make ends meet like others. It’s unfortunate that a great many preachers tend to be looked upon with some reservations because of the evil practices of some. The truth is there are plenty of honest preachers existing in spite of what is said in barbershops or beauty salons.

It is my hope and prayer that the ministry the Lord has given me has promoted Him and His kingdom, that lives have been transformed and are being transformed, that I have (am) serving His church well, that others see Jesus in me. It’s not about us, it’s all about Him:

  • We are to preach Jesus Christ who came to give His life as a sacrifice for our sins.

  • We are to preach Jesus who is the way, the truth, and the life.

  • We are to preach Jesus who will one day return for His church.

Since answering the “call” in 1980, I have strived to be a good servant, promoting Him and not myself. Thank You Lord for entrusting me with this ministry, at the end of my journey may I hear You say, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
